Trauma-Informed Programming at Fort Bend Rio Bend Center for Mental Health

Building on the sustained, measurable success of the Katy Cares Ending Trauma Program — delivered twice weekly at the Fort Bend Women’s Center Shelter — Fort Bend Women’s Center management formally requested that Katy Cares extend its programming to the Fort Bend Rio Bend Center for Mental Health, a division of Fort Bend Women’s Center. This expansion represents a direct outcome of proven impact: it was the shelter’s own observed results.

Adapting to Higher-Intensity Clinical Needs

Recognizing the elevated intensity and complexity of trauma experienced by women at the Rio Bend Center, Katy Cares adapted the Ending Trauma curriculum to meet these unique clinical needs. The result is a new guided workshop series, “Why Do I Feel This Way? Understanding Stress. Building Resilience,” offered Fridays, in person, at the Rio Bend Welcome Center.

This program is a component of the Katy Cares Ending Trauma Program. This adapted program runs alongside the Katy Cares existing general-audience offering, Understanding & Managing Stress Foundations, allowing Katy Cares to now serve both the broader Fort Bend Women’s Center community and the more clinically intensive needs of the Fort Bend Women’s Center mental health division under one expanded footprint.

Strategic Growth Driven by Demonstrated Need

This expansion is a direct realization of the Katy Cares strategic plan, reflecting our capacity to scale evidence-based, trauma-informed care in response to demonstrated need rather than assumption.

As a direct result, the number of unduplicated single mothers served monthly across all Katy Cares Programs has grown by 12 percent to 55 — a concrete measure of both deepening trust from community partners and expanding organizational capacity.
