Katy Cares Volunteers Come Together to Move Refrigerator/Freezer and Heavy Furniture

Katy Cares depends on the generosity of faithful donors and willing volunteers. This past Friday and Saturday, James Ivey and Wayne Miller of the Anchored Sunday School Class, Second Baptist 1463 Campus, sacrificed their Friday afternoon and evening to begin moving a refrigerator/freezer in to the home of a single mother registered in our Ready Sat Go! Program. They continued moving on Saturday, with the help of Torrey Mosvold and Bryan Williams’s trailer. They went the extra mile to ensure the fridge/freezer was properly installed at the home of the single mother and helped move furniture up to the second floor of Katy Cares offices. Torrey has been involved with Katy Cares the past four years as a donor [...]

A Programmatic Response: How Katy Cares Meets the Needs of Single-Parent Families

It’s not just one problem that keeps single-parent families stuck. Often there is a confluence of issues that together prevent a single Mom or Dad from overcoming the financial burden of caring for a family today in our suburban community. Typically, in addition to lacking financial and material resources, they also struggle with spiritual and emotional issues, and also perhaps the psychological resolve to manage their current situation. It is estimated that there are more than 5,000 single mothers and another 8,000 women in a dysfunctional relationship or marriage, in the Greater Katy, Fulshear, and Richmond area alone! Short-term food and housing resources solve part of the problem. The whole problem requires a comprehensive programmatic response. This is where [...]

She escaped a dysfunctional marriage with an abusive husband, who wants nothing do with her and their children. She will get very little support from him and must rely on the generosity of non-profits, her family, and friends to take care of her family. It doesn't take long to discover the scars of traumatic abuse and abandonment. Her existence is fragile, and her only concern is how to care for her [...]
